She and he are in the kitchen conversing about this and that. The ultimate questions about why (do we exsist), and where (are we headed) remain unanswered as the mineral water's metamorphosis into fire creates yet more qualms of wisdom.

The title of the film comes from the "talky's" old methods of post-synchronisation: the actors recite "rhubarbs, rhubarbs" during the shoot with a varying mimic. The picture is later dubbed (with the same actors or new ones), as to develop the dialogue's final shape. The mouth-movements don't match perfectly, but it's not really neccesary anyway. The method is tried and true, accepted in most parts of the world. In this case, the method is used to enhance the double-meaning of the conversation, or as the post-modernists say - to deconstruct the content.

The effect is quite eerie. The picture is the same, the mimics are the same, the tone is also the same, but the content is totally different. Or the opposite. War. Or peace. Everything can be changed. Only the poetry remains, as well as the misunderstandings between the man and woman. Just like "Pastry & Spirit", this film follows the sets of aesthetics that say: "everything we need is within these walls." "Rhubarbs..." was shot in the kitchen at the Meyer offices, although that doesn't mean that the set was designed by chance. It's a very interesting kitchen and with a few minor changes, a set was created which would have been rather difficult to reproduce in a large studio.
